The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. Certified Pharmacy Technicians with an IV room designation are responsible for performing duties to assist the Pharmacist in medication preparation and distribution. Those duties consist of, but are not limited to aseptic preparation of IV admixtures and the filling and distributing of medications utilizing various methods of manual and automated systems when required. They must be functional on hospital computer system as well as interfaced pharmacy systems. CPhT's must be able to perform specialized Narcotic Distribution and Storeroom duties. They must prepare stock orders and maintain adequate inventory for daily operations of various Pharmacy areas. They must be computer literate. CPhT's must adhere to and be familiar with control and safety concepts as outlined in policies, state laws, and JCAHO/DNV Standards for the Department of Pharmacy. They must be familiar with the practices involved in a unit dose medication system.
