The position involves preparing patient drug orders with proper checks performed by a pharmacist as required by law. Responsibilities include entering patient prescription orders into the computer, selecting the correct medication, strength, and dosage form, preparing labels, affixing auxiliary labels to medications, counting, measuring, weighing, and pouring medications, documenting doses dispensed, and filing medication orders. The technician is also responsible for cleaning counters, medication drawers, carts, shelves, and equipment as needed, assisting pharmacists with audits, entering and filling stock bags, and accurately processing and restocking medications for departments utilizing automated dispensing systems like Pyxis/Acudose. Additional tasks include performing medication inventory-related tasks, compounding and labeling extemporaneous products, answering telephone requests, and participating in the training of new technicians.
