About The Position

Katz JCC Personal Trainers are responsible for providing personalized attention, professional fitness instruction and designing fitness programming that significantly contributes to each member’s health and fitness goals. Each trainer must possess qualifications and experience necessary to communicate and demonstrate proper technique and form to each individual client. The Personal Trainer provides exceptional services to all customers: members, guests and staff, whether by phone or in person in a professional manner at all times.

Requirements

  • Possess qualifications and experience necessary to communicate and demonstrate proper technique and form to each individual client.
  • All personal trainers are required to be certified by a nationally accredited Personal Trainer Certification (ACE, ACSM, IFPA, NCSF, NASM, NFPT, NSCA, NESTA, NETA).
  • Keep valid certifications.
  • Have a valid and current CPR certification.
  • Have a current First Aid certification.
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge in fitness instruction.
  • At least 6 months to 1-year personal training in the field.
  • Personable, outgoing and motivating personality.
  • Ability to work well with people.
  • Wear appropriate clothing: black pants or shorts must be worn at all times when training. The black JCC personal training staff shirts must be worn during personal training sessions.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology or a related field is preferred, or proof of enrollment in a fitness related degree program.
  • Fitness Assessments for all new clients are highly recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized, effective, and safe training sessions to JCC members whether in person or online, reflecting the objectives, goals, and wishes of the client.
  • Create personalized exercise prescriptions based upon the client’s level of physical fitness and capacity for both cardiovascular and weight bearing exercises, considering a client’s pre-existing condition(s) and/or physical limitations.
  • Take a client’s health history prior to initiating personal training.
  • Obtain a medical release prior to training for clients who display high or multiple risk factors.
  • Keep a client’s pertinent and personal information confidential.
  • Conduct training sessions of either 30 or 60 minutes, determined by the client and paid for in advance with the appropriate training package.
  • Ensure training sessions may be transferred to another member per Personal Trainer Coordinator's approval.
  • Wear appropriate clothing: black pants or shorts at all times when training, and black JCC personal training staff shirts during personal training sessions. Appropriate staff jackets bearing the JCC logo may be worn over the uniform.
  • Clean equipment after use by clients during the training session.
  • Report any problems with the equipment to the Fitness Director.
  • Ensure clients pay for their sessions ahead of time before logging their sessions in Mindbody.
  • Log sessions for payroll and complete Mindbody sessions accordingly by the last Friday of the pay period, ensuring accurate bookkeeping.
  • Notify immediate supervisor when or if termination of training between client/trainer occurs due to a change in trainer or unsatisfactory reasons on either parties’ side.
  • Notify immediate supervisor when or if injury of a client occurs, and write and submit an accident report to the Fitness Director.
  • Notify the Personal Trainer Coordinator if a client is to be charged for a “no-show” for sessions cancelled within 24-hours.
  • Be on time for clients.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings/training and development.
  • Assist with special programs (e.g., 5k run / Kid’s Inflatable Run).
  • Use physical interaction appropriately during sessions, as a means of correcting alignment and/or focusing a client’s concentration on a targeted area, only at the discretion and agreement of the client or immediately discontinued at a client’s request or if discomfort is expressed/displayed.
  • Avoid sexually oriented conversation, foul language, and inappropriate physical contact.
  • Consistently highlight and promote all activities, events, training programs and services in an enthusiastic and professional manner.
  • Not solicit JCC clients to train outside of the JCC.
  • Not overlap sessions in which no floor staff are available to assist members when on floor shift.
  • Acquire and maintain a minimum of 3 clients within 45 days of hiring (for newly hired trainers).
  • Do JKickstarters as requested by the Personal Training Coordinator.
  • Clock in/out when training during a floor shift.
