About The Position

The Certified Peer Support Specialist works with individuals experiencing mental health or substance abuse issues in residential, workplace, and community settings. About the Company: Broadstep has been a leader in providing a continuum of physical, emotional, and mental support for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), mental illness, and co-occurring disorders for over 45 years. Broadstep’s North Carolina business provides community-based mental health and substance abuse programs focused on the concept of whole person care and wellness. We are CARF Accredited.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Active Certification as a Certified Peer Support Specialist in North Carolina
  • Valid Driver’s License and proof of current car insurance

Responsibilities

  • Assist program participants in the development of skills, confidence, and relationships as they resume independent living.
  • Assisting consumers in articulating personal goals for recovery.
  • Provide direct peer counseling based on your own lived experiences.
  • Help participants understand and employ recovery strategies.
  • Assisting consumers in determining the objectives the consumers’ needs to take in order to reach their recovery goals.
  • Assisting with setting up self-help groups.
  • Teaching problem solving skills.
  • Teaching how to identify and overcome fears.
  • Supporting vocational choices.
  • Assisting in building social skills.
  • Attending treatment team meetings.
  • Role modeling recovery experience.
  • Assisting with housing.
  • Identifying self-help strategies.
