About The Position

We are hiring for a Certified Peer Support Specialist / CPSS / CST at RHA Health Services in Wilson, NC. This position is for a credentialed individual who is positive and personable, looking to make a real difference in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as those facing mental health and substance use challenges. The role involves providing highly individualized services in the community, promoting self-determination and decision-making for individuals with mental health or substance abuse issues. The Certified Peer Support Specialist will also provide essential expertise and consultation to the team, ensuring that each individual's preferences are recognized and integrated into their treatment and rehabilitation. This position may serve as an advocate for the individuals supported, performing a wide range of tasks to assist them in regaining control over their recovery processes. Interventions are strength-based, focusing on recovery, symptom reduction, coping skills, and achieving the highest level of community functioning. The role also includes modeling competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills.

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist in NC or PA
  • 1 year experience working with individuals with behavioral health issues preferred
  • Valid driver's license, auto insurance and reliable transportation

Responsibilities

  • Modeling effective coping and self-help techniques to individuals
  • Providing empowerment skills and support in successful recovery living
  • Assisting individuals in finding resources, advising of processes, and encouraging follow through with proposed resolutions
  • Locating social activities or providing other assistance as needed
  • Leading peer support groups with individuals served
  • Supporting/assisting individuals in daily decision making and resolution of minor problems
  • Facilitating social opportunities in the community
  • Fostering development of healthy relationships by encouraging participation in community activities
  • Sharing personal story of recovery and resilience to instill hope
