About The Position

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED, HiSET) required.
• One year of full-time equivalent experience working with persons with mental disabilities required.
• Completion of a minimum of 20 hours on-the-job training within one year of employment.
• Some college-level coursework in sociology, psychology, or counseling preferred.
• Valid California Driver's License required.
• First Aid certification required within 90 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

• Personal experience as a consumer in the child welfare, probation, or adult mental health systems.
• Completion of additional college-level coursework related to mental health.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a role model and advocate for consumers with disabilities.
• Provide informal counseling and support to consumers regarding relationships, feelings, and personal goals.
• Assist consumers in exploring options and formulating problem-solving plans.
