About The Position

The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) provides recovery-oriented peer support services to Persons in Recovery (PIRs) by drawing upon lived experience to promote hope, empowerment, and self-determination. The CPS supports individuals in navigating their recovery journey by fostering natural supports, promoting community integration, and assisting with symptom management that may impact wellness. This role plays a vital part in delivering person-centered, trauma-informed services while modeling healthy recovery behaviors and encouraging engagement in treatment and support services.

Requirements

  • Active Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) Certification required.
  • Commitment to maintaining 18 credit hours of continuing education annually.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with individuals in mental health recovery preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage individuals, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, community partners, and support networks.
  • Cultural humility and respect for diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
  • Effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to follow policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements consistently.
  • Reliable, self-directed, and accountable in a fast-paced, recovery-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support services including education, advocacy, and engagement to support recovery goals.
  • Encourage active participation in the treatment and recovery process through shared lived experience and recovery-focused strategies.
  • Deliver recovery education to individuals served, staff, and family members, which may include: Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) Self-help and mutual peer support groups Orientation and training for new enrollees Staff and team education related to recovery principles
  • Support person-centered interventions as outlined in individualized service plans.
  • Facilitate group-based services as appropriate, including: WRAP groups Recovery support groups Community meetings Symptom management and coping skills groups
  • Assist individuals with independent living skills and community integration.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency and regulatory requirements.
  • Model wellness and recovery by maintaining personal physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support program operations and individual recovery outcomes.
