About The Position

The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) provides peer-based recovery support services to individuals in mental health recovery. Drawing on lived experience and professional training, the CPS supports individuals in regaining control over their recovery journey through education, advocacy, skill development, and connection to natural and community supports. This role is an integral part of the ACT team and models wellness, recovery, and person-centered care in alignment with RHD values.

Requirements

  • Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) certification
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with individuals in mental health recovery
  • Ability to maintain certification requirements, including at least 18 credit hours of continuing education annually
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as required by program needs

  • Strong understanding of recovery-oriented, person-centered, and peer-driven service models
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, sound judgment, and confidentiality (HIPAA compliance)
  • Comfort using basic office equipment and computer software
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and engaging in repetitive motion
  • Willingness to follow all safety, OSHA, fire, fiscal, and organizational policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Deliver peer support services, including education, advocacy, and engagement in treatment and recovery planning
  • Support individuals served in developing coping skills, managing symptoms, and building independence
  • Assist with the development of natural supports, social connections, and meaningful community involvement
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate recovery-oriented groups and activities such as:
  • Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) groups
  • Recovery support and self-help groups
  • Community meetings and coping skills groups
  • Provide recovery education and orientation to individuals served, family members, staff, and new enrollees
  • Support person-centered interventions outlined in individual service plans
  • Assist individuals with independent living preparation
  • Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner according to agency policies
  • Maintain personal wellness and model healthy functioning for individuals served
  • Attend required trainings and meetings and perform additional assigned duties that support recovery services
