About The Position

The Peer Specialist position is a key role within a multidisciplinary team at MultiCare, focusing on the recovery process and symptom management for patients with severe and persistent mental illnesses. This role emphasizes collaboration to foster a culture of respect, empathy, and understanding among team members and clients alike. As a Peer Specialist, you will leverage your personal experiences to assist clients in regaining control over their lives. This includes developing supportive relationships, advocating for themselves, and achieving stability in housing, education, and employment. You will provide peer counseling and support, drawing on your common experiences to validate patients' feelings and encourage them to take an active role in their healthcare and wellness. Your mentorship will promote hope and empowerment, guiding patients through their recovery journey. In addition to providing direct clinical services to patients—both individually and in group settings—you will teach symptom and behavior management techniques, support skill-building, and help patients cope with various stresses. Your insights as a mental health consumer will be invaluable in consulting with the entire team about patients' experiences, treatment responses, and recovery processes. You will also encourage participation in self-help programs and consumer advocacy organizations that promote recovery, further enhancing the support network available to our clients.
