About The Position

Adventist HealthCare seeks to hire an experienced Certified Peer Recovery Specialist for our Chemical Dependency team who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing. As a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist you will: Provides non-clinical peer recovery support services to individuals and families intended to aid patients with establishing recovery, and reducing risks associated with overdose. Meets with every patient enrolled in the IOP or SOP either at intake or within 48 hours of intake assessment. Engage patients in the recovery process through skills training, instruction, modeling, advocating, positive feedback and shaping that will support and guide our patient in their own recovery. Conducts screenings to understand the patient’s history of drug and/or alcohol use, treatment history, social service and other recovery support needs and motivation to change behavior. Uses personal recovery experiences to facilitate patient’s engagement and address barriers in establishing and maintaining recovery. Facilitates patient’s readiness for change and uses motivational interviewing techniques and other communication skills to support and encourage the patient to plan for reduction or elimination of drug and alcohol use. Models coping techniques and self-help strategies. Assists patients in setting personal recovery goals and developing recovery care plans. Engage with the inpatient behavioral health treatment team to provide patients with access and care transitions to outpatient and inpatient addiction treatment and recovery services on the continuum of care. Provides family and social support network members with education and recovery support materials. Every patient or contact interaction is documented in the Electronic Medical Record.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • The incumbent should have a minimum of two years of professional experience in a mental setting and/or substance use disorder setting providing peer support/navigation
  • The candidate must be actively engaged in his/her own recovery with a minimum of three years demonstrated personal recovery experience from alcohol and/or drug use.
  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) in the state of Maryland
  • For PHP roles, may accept mental health recovery experience in place of substance abuse recovery experience.
  • Successful completion of CPR Certification and successful completion of CPI prior to assisting with a restraining procedure and within 30 days of employment.
