Essential Functions: The Patient Care Technician works on basic care for adult and geriatric patients' needs including, but not limited to comfort, hygiene, safety, environmental cleanliness under the supervision of professional and practical nursing staff. Completes documentation of patient related tasks. Performs all functions delegated by the nurse staff and adheres to the policies, procedures and scope of practice. Patient Care : Assists the nurse in collection of data used for assessment of patients' conditions as assigned, including vital signs, weights, blood glucose monitoring, I&O, etc. Assists with the patients hygiene, nutrition and personal care needs. Completes documentation of patient related tasks . People and Quality : Ensures patient safety by maintaining a safe environment under the direction of the nurse. Communicates effectively about patient care and needs while on duty. Supports team work of the unit in meeting patient needs. Utilizes AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) when interacting with a patient or family. Maintains a clean environment in patient care area . Service: Supports team work of the unit in meeting patient needs. Completes patient rounding in accordance with patient assignments and schedule to drive patient satisfaction and safety . Growth : Seeks knowledge and opportunities for career development and in support of unit/department growth . Community : Accepts direction of the supervisor and LPN/RN to perform other duties as assigned and participates in LCMC's community events .

Requirements

  • REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent, appropriate work experience.
  • 1 year of Clinical Care experience; CNA or PCT experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment.
  • Ability to recognize problematic behaviors.
  • Ability to follow direction of the LPN/RN/Charge Nurse for the shift.
  • REQUIRED: Basic Life Support/CPR (BLS)--Provider: American Heart Association
  • Certificate in Non-Violent Crisis Prevention (CPI) from the Crisis Prevention Institute is required with 90 days of hire into an Emergency Room or Behavioral Health Unit.
  • CNA/PCT certification, Patient Care Technician/Assistant Certification (CPCT/A)--Nationally accredited and recognized by the State of Louisiana
