About The Position

The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and clinical staff with direct and indirect patient care, ensuring smooth work and patient flow within the department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • COA certification
  • CPR certification
  • MA-R certification

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of experience in an eye care setting
  • Clinical experience in a physician's practice

Responsibilities

  • Obtain initial patient assessment by recording pertinent medical history and charts procedures for medical records
  • Perform and record visual acuities, color vision, stereopsis test, auto refractometer readings, refraction and intraocular pressure and other testing as directed by physician
  • Coordinate physician activities and facilitate patient flow in the office
  • Utilize AIDET to greet patients, handle questions during visits, triage phone calls and schedule appointments
  • Administer ocular medications under physician direction
  • Assist with treatments and minor surgical procedures as needed under physician direction
  • Maintain accurate and reliable medical records
  • Complete patient billing and track referrals
  • Work as a team member within the Ophthalmology department and with all other Optum departments
