About The Position

The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant functions as an assistant to the Ophthalmologist or Optometrist in providing basic direct patient care. Job Relationships Reports to the Operations Manager Principal Responsibilities Perform variety of visual acuity testing, pupillary evaluation and diagnostic tests. Administer eye medications and irrigating solutions under supervision of eye doctor. Obtain basic history, chief complaint from patient including past ocular, medical, family and social history. Order medical testing and schedule/coordinate surgeries. Assist with minor surgeries. Perform basic diagnostic skills and testing. This includes manual/auto lensometry, keratometry, visual fields, applanation tonometry and fundus photography. Possess general medical knowledge. Has a basic understanding of ocular anatomy and diseases. Is familiar with ophthalmic medications. Can phone in prescription medications into a pharmacy. General knowledge of medical equipment and instrument maintenance and calibration. Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures. Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy. Provide excellent customer service and adhere to SC Way customer service philosophy. Perform other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current JCAHPO certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant.
  • CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.
