The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician (COA/T) performs various routine tasks and works effectively with other technicians and clinic personnel to provide efficient and effective services for the patients and physicians. The COA/T works daily with refractions, a-scan, visual acuity, color testing, pupil evaluations, visual field testing, and dilation drops. The COA/T must have a clear understanding of ophthalmology terminology and have technical use of all instruments and equipment. The COA/T must also be able to make clear judgments regarding patient care and are required to assist and scribe the physician on all patients as needed.
