Performs the duties and responsibilities within the scope of a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant - Level I & II, as defined within the job description.

Requirements

  • Current Occupational Therapy Assistant licensure as required by the state where services will be performed: MD: Occupational Therapy Assistant through Maryland Board of Occupational Therapy Practice OH: Occupational Therapy Assistant through Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Training Board PA: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant through Pennsylvania Department of State WV: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant through West Virginia Board of Occupational Therapy
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Four (4) years of occupational therapy assistant experience.

  • Current specialty certification in one of the following: Certified Brain Injury Specialist through Brain Injury Association of America Certified Lymphedema Therapist through the Lymphology Association of North America Physical Agent Modalities through American Occupational Therapy Association Lee Silverman Voice Treatment -BIG through Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) Global
  • Current enrollment in Bridge Program from OTA-OT

Responsibilities

  • Implements the treatment programs established by the OTR for assigned patients to identify, prevent, and to minimize physical disabilities and/or pain of patient. As appropriate to setting, determines/revises priorities for direct/indirect patient care activities based on patient need and available resources; collaborates with nursing to update appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling. Documents all treatments, according to department policies and procedures, as monitored by supervision. Reviews with supervising therapist all assigned patients, at least two times per week, in order to assure appropriateness of treatment plan, as monitored by supervision.
  • Identifies and addresses psychological needs of patients and family. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
  • Consults with other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
  • Documents care and ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis.
  • Participates in community education programs as needed.
  • Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.
