About The Position

The Occupational Therapist Assistant will help occupational therapists provide occupational therapy treatments and procedures. This is a full-time, hourly position. This position will serve the pediatric population including children and families with various difficulties. The Occupational Therapist Assistant may, in accordance with state laws, assist in development of treatment plans, carry out routine functions, direct activity programs, and document the progress of treatments.

Requirements

  • General understanding of occupational therapy and medical terminology.
  • Interest in working with children and their families/caregivers.
  • Ability to work professionals from various disciplines.
  • Strong client care skills.
  • Strong and professional communication skills when working with families and other staff.
  • Strong professional attributes including (but not limited to) dressing in assigned uniform, arriving to work on time, complying with all HIPAA regulations, etc.
  • Completion of degree specifically as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Valid PA state license upon passing the Certification Examination for Occupational Therapy Assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in the pediatric field (2 years preferred, however not required)

Responsibilities

  • Works with occupational therapists to plan, implement, and administer educational, vocational, or recreational programs to restore and enhance performance in children with functional impairments.
  • Selects therapy activities to fit clients’ needs and capabilities.
  • Observes and records clients’ progress, attitudes, and behavior, and maintains this information in client records.
  • Communicates and collaborates with other health care professionals involved with the care of a client.
  • Instructs or assists in instructing clients and families in home programs, basic living skills, and the care and use of adaptive equipment when necessary.
  • Implements or assists occupational therapists with implementing treatment plans to help clients function independently to the best of their ability.
  • Assembles, cleans, and maintains equipment and materials for client use.
  • Alters treatment programs to obtain better results if treatment is not having the intended effect.
  • Demonstrates therapy techniques such as creative arts or games, learning through play, or group activities.
  • Transports clients to and from the occupational therapy work area.
  • Attends care plan meetings to review client progress and update care plans with occupational therapist.
  • Performs clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, collecting data, and documenting health insurance billings.
  • Orders educational and treatment supplies.
