The Certified Nursing Attendant (CNA) position in Long Term Care is a full-time role focused on providing essential patient care in a supportive and compassionate environment. The CNA will be responsible for delivering patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served, ensuring that all actions are guided by a thorough understanding of patient growth and development. This role requires keen observation skills to report any changes in the residents' physical, mental, emotional, behavioral, and social well-being to the Primary or Charge Nurse. The CNA will take and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPR), and will be responsible for obtaining specimens as assigned, such as urine, stool, or sputum. Additionally, the CNA will weigh patients and assist them with activities of daily living, including skin care, bathing, dressing, and ambulation. In addition to direct patient care, the CNA will maintain cleanliness in both patient and non-patient units, ensuring that all areas are tidy and well-stocked for new admissions. This includes preparing bedside units with necessary supplies and applying principles of infection control and safety in the work environment. The CNA will also be expected to communicate effectively with nursing staff regarding patient needs and requests, orient patients to their environment, and develop rapport with patients, families, and significant others. Adherence to the Medical Center's Code of Conduct and the Patient's Bill of Rights is essential, as is a commitment to customer service that reflects respect, professionalism, and a caring attitude. The role also includes participation in ongoing education, with a requirement of 12 hours of in-service education annually, covering topics such as resident rights, advance directives, and abuse prevention. The CNA will utilize the hospital's computer system in accordance with hospital policy and may assist in the orientation of new nursing assistants. Participation in unit committees and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities is also expected, along with the flexibility to assist other personnel as necessary and perform other related duties as required.
