About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position at Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community involves providing essential care to patients, including assistance with personal hygiene, meals, and mobility. The role requires effective communication with residents and the ability to observe and report changes in their condition. CNAs will participate in various restorative nursing techniques and ensure a safe and clean environment for patients. The position may require working third shifts and alternating weekends.

Requirements

  • Minimum age 18.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certified CNA with NC.

Responsibilities

  • Receive report on patients from off-going shift.
  • Sign out and carry designated pager, respond in a timely manner to all pages received.
  • Receive daily assignment for patient care.
  • Observe patients for change in condition and report any change immediately.
  • Provide and/or assist patients with personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, shaving, hair care, nail care, and general grooming.
  • Assess resident's needs, both visually and verbally.
  • Effectively communicate with the resident regarding their needs.
  • Assist patients with meals, setting up trays and feeding as needed.
  • Record percentage of meals and snacks consumed on Flow Sheet.
  • Record fluids taken for patients on I & O.
  • Participate in Restorative Feeding Program as assigned.
  • Assist with bowel and bladder needs by taking patients to the bathroom or offering bedpan and/or urinal regularly.
  • Provide daily catheter care where needed.
  • Keep patients clean and dry at all times; check incontinent patients at least every two (2) hours.
  • Participate in Bowel and Bladder Training programs as directed.
  • Assist patients in transfers from bed to chair or chair to commode, using proper body mechanics.
  • Assist with ambulating as directed.
  • Participate in other Restorative nursing techniques including: proper positioning in bed or chair, ADL training, passive ROM exercises and ambulation.
  • Check and record routine vital signs and weights as assigned.
  • Answer call lights promptly; keep call lights within patient's reach at all times.
  • Help to admit patients and ensure unit is clean and bed made up.
  • Orient patient to roommate, bathroom, and mealtimes.
  • Help to discharge patients and assist with packing.
  • Change bed linens daily and as needed; place soiled linen in dirty linen hampers.
  • Supply fresh ice water to patients each shift.
  • Turn and position bed-bound patients at least every two (2) hours.
  • Provide frequent skin care (twice per shift) for bed-bound patients.
  • Encourage patients to be active; to participate in activities of daily living and recreational activities.
  • Keep environment safe for patients.
  • Assist with Reality Orientation of confused patients.
  • Know and observe Patient's Bill of Rights.
  • Do Post-mortem care as instructed.
  • Assist others in heavy lifting; use proper equipment.
  • Attend In-services classes and Staff Meetings.
  • Chart daily on Flow Sheet, making sure documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Report off to Team Leader prior to the end of the shift.
  • Follow established policy and procedure, task list, and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
