Responsibilities

  • Assist nursing staff in direct patient care activities as assigned.
  • Assist inmates with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing, bed making, shaving, dressing and other related tasks.
  • Assist in checking vital signs, height and weight as assigned; collect and maintain records of fluid intake and output; report on the condition of inmates.
  • Follow established infection control practices and emergency protocols.
  • Assist inmates in wheel chairs, on stretchers and ambulating.
  • Promote and encourage patient hydration and elimination.
  • Assist inmates with ambulation, turning and repositioning, and range of motion activities.
  • Cleanse bedside units, workrooms and equipment; assist nursing staff with washing and sterilizing equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain written reports and records as assigned.
  • Assist with medications ordinarily self-administered when specifically ordered by a physician.
  • Respond to call lights promptly and courteously.
  • Receive formal and on the job training in the theory and techniques of direct care support.
  • Maintain confidentiality of inmate records.
  • Approach change in a positive manner.
  • Make suggestions for improving work conditions to the Medical Director.
  • Accept constructive criticism in stressful situations.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned upon receiving the necessary training and/or instruction.

Requirements

  • Completion of a certification program from an accredited Nursing Assistant program.
  • Current CPR Certification from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute.
  • 0-2 years of experience.
