About The Position

The Certified Medication Assistant (CMA) / Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing high-quality resident care in alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and regulatory requirements. This dual-certified role ensures the safe and accurate administration of medications under the direction of a nurse, while also providing direct, hands-on support with activities of daily living to promote dignity, independence, and overall well-being. The CMA/CNA collaborates closely with nursing and caregiving teams to support a person-centered care environment and ensure residents attain or maintain the highest possible physical, mental, and emotional health. This role functions as both a Certified Nursing Assistant and a Certified Medication Aide in accordance with applicable state regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medication Aide (CMA) and CPR. In accordance with State regulations to ensure proper training, certifications or licensure.
  • 0-1 Years Experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and healthcare professionals.
  • Knowledge of various medications, their purposes, dosages, routes of administration, and potential side effects.
  • Knowledge of privacy regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of record-keeping skills to document medication administration and patient responses accurately.
  • Ability to educate patients about their medications.
  • Ability to stand, sit, talk, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to operate various equipment base on department.
  • The ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., machinery alarms, medical codes or alarms. Four hearing requirements listed: In person speech, Telephone, Other remote speech and other sounds.
  • For near visual acuity Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less (i.e., working with small objects or reading small print), including use of computers.
  • For far visual acuity, Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. This is not just the ability to see a person or object, but the ability to recognize features as well.
  • For peripheral vision, observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Nurse, passes medication and provides treatments according to physician’s orders and in accordance with facility policy. Provides, completes and documents as assigned timely and accurately.
  • Maintain resident rooms in a clean and orderly manner by providing light housekeeping, changing linen, making beds, putting away clothing and personal effects, tidying bedside table, shelves, closets, and cleaning bathrooms, etc.
  • Provide direct care and assistance with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, mobility, and feeding.
  • Position is service in nature; in performance of duties the resident care assistant is entrusted to assist residents with basic personal care according to procedures and daily assignment. This includes but is not limited to bathing, dressing, dental hygiene, toilet activities, grooming, feeding, transportation/transfer, etc. The role assist residents with transfers, ambulation, and supportive devices using proper safety techniques.
  • Attends and participates in facility meetings and in-service training programs.
  • Practices good infection control techniques in all aspects of resident care. Prepare residents for meals, assist with serving meals and feeding of residents.
  • Observes residents’ rights including, but not limited to, privacy, dignity, etc.
  • Observe residents and promptly report changes in condition, behavior, or functional status. Safeguards the resident’s privacy and property.
  • Participates in the orientation of new or temporary staff to the unit to assure continuity in the delivery of resident care.
  • Promotes positive public relations with residents, family members and guests.
  • Provides restorative care to residents as assigned by the Nurse or as indicated in the overall plan of care.
  • Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Must be able to give clear and concise direction to staff and others.
