About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) assists the Nursing Department in the care of patients. The CNA ensures that LifeCare Hospital’s philosophy, standards, policies, and procedures are met professionally. The CNA is actively involved in departmental activities, transdisciplinary team activities, and LifeCare activities to ensure individualized, patient-centered healthcare for all patient populations admitted to LifeCare Hospital. Patient Population: Has contact with patients in a clinical setting; understands and demonstrates appropriate behavior when interacting with patients in the adult (18-65 years of age) and geriatric (65 and older) populations.

Requirements

  • Six to twelve months of experience in an acute clinical setting is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Current CNA certification in the state where practicing if required.
  • Current BLS certification is required.
  • All CNAs must maintain current CNA certification, if required by State, and BLS certification while employed with LifeCare Hospitals.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care under the direction of the nursing staff in a competent and proficient manner. Assists nurses in identifying and responding to patient needs during rounds (e.g., personal needs, safety needs, etc.).
  • Ensures patient safety at all times by notifying the assigned nurse, or nursing supervisor, of any risk factors seen, initiating, and maintaining appropriate safety measures. Responds appropriately and assists others in emergency situations in a calm and effective manner.
  • Plans/organizes work for assigned shift to properly utilize time, resources, and supplies to ensure patient receives appropriate quality care.
  • Communicates patient status and changes in patient condition to the nurse and next shift for continuity of care.
  • Accurately completes and documents assignments (e.g., vital signs, blood glucose, meals, intake/output, etc.)
  • Maintains and ensures equipment is clean and in working order; assures supplies are adequate.
