About The Position

Under the supervision and/or direction of a Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse or Staff Nurse, the NAR performs various duties assisting nursing or clinical staff in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with the established methods and procedures of the Senior Care Unit and the host hospital.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Registration with the MN Board of Nursing as a Nursing Assistant
  • CPR Certification
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to the patient population serviced in the Senior Care Unit. Must be able to comprehend and communicate basic concepts related to the process of mental health treatment. Each staff member must be able to assess and interpret data relating to the patient's status in order to identify the specific needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the assigned patients in activities of daily living.
  • Taking care of a patient's personal hygiene, including bed baths, shaving, nail care etc
  • Toileting patients and emptying catheter bags
  • Monitoring vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure
  • Setting up of meal trays, documenting food/fluid intake and feeding patients
  • Serving nutritional supplements
  • Making beds and keeping patient's space clean and tidy
  • Bringing the patients to therapy area
  • Turning bed ridden patients to prevent bedsores
  • Encouraging and assisting with ambulation
  • Observing patients
  • Assist patients in maintenance of their environment, as required.
  • Participate in planning and implementing daily activities for patients.
  • Monitor the patient attendance in Unit Activities for patients.
  • Interact with patients on a one-on-one basis in a therapeutic manner.
  • Report relevant patient information to the RN for evaluation, intervention and documentation.
  • Monitor the patient during the use of potentially hazardous equipment.
  • Observes patients and communicates changes and/or needs to the RN.
  • Documents patient cares in the Electronic Medical Record. Cares include but not limited to: vital signs, intake/output, meals and activities of daily living.
  • Assist in the admission process of the patient, which includes the inspection and proper care of patient's clothing and property. Orient the patient to the Unit.
  • Assist as needed in occupational activities, recreational activities and patient community meetings.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment staffing.
  • Monitor the safety of the therapeutic milieu.
  • Assist in the management of the aggressive/assault patient; behavioral emergency response including physically responding to restraint needs.
