About The Position

the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) works under the delegated authority of a registered nurse to perform a nursing function within their scope of practice and assist the nurse in collecting data for a nursing assessment under the supervision of a nurse. The CNA provides quality nursing care to patients; implements specific procedures and programs; coordinates work within the department, as well as with other departments; reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; responds to inquiries or requests for information; and assists the immediate supervisor with tasks to support department operations. This 30-bed medical specialty unit provides care to medical and oncology patients having a variety of complex medical needs including chemotherapy administration, radioactive iodine (I-131) treatments, intensive pain, symptom management, palliative care treatment and end of life care. Patient care is provided by a team of highly skilled nurses who work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) by the Maryland Board of Nursing
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BLS certification
  • Current knowledge of nursing skills within their scope of practice.
  • Computer and audiovisual skills using various applications and technologies: Internet, email, word processing, wireless phone, pager.
  • Ability to obtain and retrieve data.
  • Effectively read, speak, write, compose and comprehend English.
  • Effective eye and hand coordination.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize.
  • Ability to work well with individuals and groups.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of hospital experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (eating, bathing, dressing, mobility, toileting)
  • Support care procedures including catheter care, sitz baths, colostomy care, and more
  • Apply care products such as compression devices and restraints appropriately
  • Set up respiratory and cardiac equipment (e.g., oxygen, suction, EKGs, incentive spirometry)
  • Function in both CNA and Health Unit Coordinator roles as assigned
