Under direct supervision of a licensed nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs a variety of routine duties involving care of medically or mentally ill acute or sub-acute patients; performs direct patient care; observes and reports changes in the behavior and physical status of patients; provides a clean and safe environment; and performs related duties.

Requirements

License and Certification: Possession of a current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health Status must show "Valid" at: https://cvl.cdph.ca.gov/SearchPage.aspx
Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate is required for some positions .
Possession of a Certified Phlebotomy Technician 1 (CPT-1) Certificate, issued by the State of California Department of Health Services, is required for those positions that perform phlebotomy .

To qualify for these positions, your CNA certificate MUST be issued by the California DPH.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate Requirement/Provision: Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association is required as a provision to employment for all positions.
Candidates who do not possess such a certification may participate in this examination process and be appointed to a position(s), but will be required to obtain the certificate within two (2) weeks of hire date and maintain validity throughout length of employment.
A photocopy of the valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate must be provided to the appropriate supervisor of the appointment within the allotted time frame.
Failure to demonstrate/show proof of possession of valid certification within two (2) weeks of hire date and throughout length of employment may result in dismissal and/or termination of employment.

Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, and as part of the treatment team, provides routine patient care in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards.
Establishes and maintains a therapeutic and/or medical relationship with patients.
As appropriate, reviews patient's admission documentation and notes pertinent facts regarding diagnoses and treatment history.
Documents care according to department standards.
Maintains constant and continuous communication with medical providers and staff.
As directed by licensed staff; reviews and implements treatment plans, and provides one-to-one care when essential to treatment plans.
Observes, records and reports patient medical, social and psychiatric behavior and physical conditions.
Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and treatment planning by reporting observations and concerns and by asking questions.
Attends and participates in patient groups, case conferences, staff meetings and in-service training programs.
As assigned, completes procedures and specimen collection including phlebotomy.
Adheres to health, safety, and infection control policy and resource utilization.
Manages work time effectively, efficiently and productively.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
