About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position at Alameda Health System involves performing a variety of para-professional nursing tasks under close supervision. The role focuses on providing care and treatment to patients in a hospital or clinic setting, including routine nursing duties that do not require a license. The CNA will assist with personal hygiene, vital signs, and support registered nurses and licensed vocational nurses in delivering patient care.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED with additional training; college graduate preferred.
• Six months para-professional nursing training as a Hospital Services Trainee or equivalent experience in a hospital or medical facility.
• BLS - Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training required for certain positions.
• Current Nursing Assistant certification required for positions at Highland and Fairmont Hospitals.

Responsibilities

• Assists patients with meals, personal hygiene, and incontinent care; gives cleansing and retention enemas; assists in catheterization and bladder irrigations.
• Supports registered nurses and licensed vocational nurses in administering treatment and other nursing tasks; promptly answers call lights and ensures patient comfort and safety.
• Obtains and sets up suction equipment; performs nasal and tracheal suctions; administers oxygen; assists patients with mobility and ambulation.
• Takes patients' vital signs and performs routine tests; reports findings to supervising personnel; assists in application of traction devices and transports patients.
• When assigned as a sitter, protects patients from harm and assists in meeting their emotional and physical needs through continuous observation.
• In an outpatient setting, prepares examination rooms, documents vital signs, assists during examinations, and maintains a clean clinical area.
