About The Position

Our compassionate staff focuses on providing short term-rehabilitation services to get you back to the life you love. After a hospitalization or illness, we treat patients who may need extra assistance during their recovery period. From there, we help to ease the transition from the hospital to the comfort of their own home or other living arrangement. Health problems like stroke, congestive heart failure, lung disease, joint replacements and hip fractures can affect the entire body. Recovering from these problems requires a whole-person approach from Mercyhealth's qualified staff. They specialize in IV-therapy, wound care, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Cares for patients in the hospital setting under direction of nursing staff, by performing the following duties, supporting the nursing philosophy. May include weekends, holidays, day, evening, night, and or on-call hours. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Completion of a CNA program.
Current CNA certificate in applicable state.
Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.

The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Function of the position with or without accommodations. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands to handle, finger, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, steep, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

Provides patient care as assigned and per routine as defined by educational scope, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.
Answers call lights in a timely and appropriate manner.
Documents care provided according to standards.
Maintains a clean work and patient environment.
Maintains supplies, including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
Floats to various units based on identified patient care needs.
Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities.
Training/precepting new partners in collaboration with unit educator
Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) with lab personnel
Bladder scanning procedure reviewed
Bladder scanner training complete (check off sheet for competency)
Attaching patient to remote telemetry or bedside cardiac monitor
Managing and reporting collection devices:
Colostomy, ileostomy or other fecal management systems: care and output measures
Indwelling catheters: care and output measures
Nasogastric tubes to suction
Surgical drains under direction of supervising RN
Competent in completing vital signs: Manual process for blood pressure and required reporting of abnormal values to supervising RN
Discontinue invasive devices under the direction of the supervising RN:
Indwelling (Foley) catheters
Nasogastric tubes
Peripherally inserted intravenous catheters
