About The Position

The Arizona Department of Veterans Services (AZDVS) is seeking compassionate Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to join our team dedicated to serving Veterans and their families. This position involves providing high-quality direct care services to veterans, participating in facility meetings and training sessions, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. The role requires working 12-hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with every other weekend off. The position is located at the Arizona State Veterans' Home in Yuma, Arizona.

Requirements

  • Current or temporary license to practice as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Arizona.
  • Current Negative TB skin test or a written statement indicating freedom from Tuberculosis.
  • Ability to obtain and retain a fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
  • Current CPR card obtained by physical assessment.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of skilled nursing facility or long-term care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Veterans/Members with transfers, ambulation, eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, personal hygiene and other ADLs.
  • Follow instructions to use simple procedures and devices to strengthen Veterans'/Members' limbs and maintain flexibility.
  • Assist nursing staff with simple medical procedures such as suppositories, enemas, treatments, post-surgical care and post-mortem care.
  • Monitor physical and mental status of Veterans/Members by utilizing appropriate medical equipment and techniques to take vital signs and track input/output.
  • Document medical records and prepare simple reports on all assigned Veterans/Members.
  • Assist Veterans/Members with dining, including transporting to the dining room and serving meals.
  • Respond to patient requests for assistance in a timely manner according to the Resident Bill of Rights.
  • Maintain cleanliness of areas by changing bedding, linens and other items.
  • Assist licensed nurses in emergency situations following established policies and procedures.
  • Transport Veterans/Members to appointments outside the facility and perform clerical duties as needed.
  • Participate in AMS processes such as Huddle Boards and Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement programs.
