Requirements
- Current CNA certification and successful completion of state-approved training and competency evaluation
- At least 18 years of age
- Ability to read and follow written instructions and document the care provided
- Comfortable providing specialized care to terminally ill patients, understands hospice philosophy
- Empathy, tact, patience, and strong communication skills
- Current CPR certification
- Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation for agency-related travel
- Good organizational skills and ability to work independently
Responsibilities
- Provide personal care, including bathing, grooming, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linens
- Assist with dressing, toileting, and mobility needs
- Plan and prepare nutritious meals; assist with feeding as needed
- Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) when ordered
- Perform range of motion exercises and simple therapy procedures as instructed
- Monitor and report changes in patient condition to the supervising nurse
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients
- Offer emotional support and companionship to patients and families
- Provide respite care for family/caregivers when appropriate
- Participate in care planning, team meetings, and quality improvement activities
- Adhere to documentation standards and professional conduct guidelines
