Requirements

  • Current CNA certification and successful completion of state-approved training and competency evaluation
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions and document the care provided
  • Comfortable providing specialized care to terminally ill patients, understands hospice philosophy
  • Empathy, tact, patience, and strong communication skills
  • Current CPR certification
  • Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation for agency-related travel
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work independently

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care, including bathing, grooming, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linens
  • Assist with dressing, toileting, and mobility needs
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals; assist with feeding as needed
  • Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) when ordered
  • Perform range of motion exercises and simple therapy procedures as instructed
  • Monitor and report changes in patient condition to the supervising nurse
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients
  • Offer emotional support and companionship to patients and families
  • Provide respite care for family/caregivers when appropriate
  • Participate in care planning, team meetings, and quality improvement activities
  • Adhere to documentation standards and professional conduct guidelines
