Several openings available for night shifts. This is a full-time position with the Department of Veterans Affairs - Michael J. Fitzmaurice South Dakota Veterans Home. We serve South Dakota Veterans and their families through quality health care in an environment and community of trust, dignity and sharing in our beautiful facility located in lovely Hot Springs, South Dakota. As a long-term care facility, our beautiful home offers 70 private nursing care units and 23 units for independent living. A Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) is an important and valuable member to the South Dakota Veterans Home by "taking care of America's heroes" by assisting with day to day resident care and engaging the residents in various household activities / events. This role performs basic resident care, assists with day to day resident and household activities, and assists licensed health care personnel in the provision of routine medical care in a household-type environment at the South Dakota State Veterans Home. Physical activities may include squatting, kneeling, bending, twisting, lifting, and more. Shift differential is provided for weekend shifts. Requirements

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a South Dakota Certified Nurse Aide certification within four months of hire date.
  • Knowledge of: English grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
  • Knowledge of: arithmetic sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide;
  • Knowledge of: basic human hygiene requirements;
  • Knowledge of: resident safety procedures and practices;
  • Knowledge of: procedures for documenting resident care;
  • Knowledge of: basic computer operation and software use;
  • Knowledge of: protective health measures.
  • Ability to: communicate information clearly and concisely;
  • Ability to: count accurately and record numerical and alphabetical data;
  • Ability to: compare information and recognize discrepancies;
  • Ability to: observe, recognize, and report abnormal physical symptoms;
  • Ability to: assist residents with personal care and hygiene needs;
  • Ability to: exercise tact and discretion in dealing with others;
  • Ability to: follow established policies and procedures;
  • Ability to: understand and apply instructions;
  • Ability to: use a computer and applicable data entry programs;
  • Ability to: lift 50 pounds.
