About The Position

CVP is seeking Certified Nursing Assistants to provide essential nursing support services for our Nation's Veterans at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System. You'll work in Med/Surg and Inpatient Psychiatric units, providing direct patient care under the guidance of Registered Nurses.As a Certified Nursing Assistant, you will perform basic, appropriate, and effective interventions to meet individual patient needs according to established facility policies and safety standards. You'll work with minimal monitoring by RNs, anticipating the needs of professional staff and functioning as an integral team member

Requirements

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from any U.S. state
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association
  • Minimum one (1) year current experience in medical/surgical unit, long-term care/nursing home, or inpatient psychiatric unit
  • Must have worked within the last six (6) months in above settings
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • COVID-19 vaccination required (or approved religious/medical exemption)
  • Ability to speak, read, understand, and write English fluently
  • Computer literacy and ability to use healthcare technology
  • Physical ability to lift, turn, and assist patients without restrictions
  • Direct patient care experience in hospital, nursing home, or psychiatric settings
  • Knowledge of basic nursing procedures and patient safety protocols
  • Experience with vital signs monitoring, patient hygiene care, and mobility assistance
  • Understanding of infection control procedures and medical equipment care

Responsibilities

  • Perform personal nursing care including feeding, walking, lifting, turning patients, and providing hygiene care using specialized equipment
  • Take, record, and report vital signs and changes in patients' condition, assist doctors in diagnostic examinations and emergency procedures
  • Assemble necessary equipment, position patients, collect and transport specimens to laboratory, and escort patients to diagnostic studies
  • Change simple dressings, care for patients with infections and communicable diseases, and provide care for patients receiving oxygen therapy
  • Conduct admission inventories including contraband searches, provide 1:1 care as Patient Safety Partner, and perform EKGs as requested
  • Document patient information, promote physical independence through self-care supervision, and work with COVID-19 positive patients and Patients Under Investigation as required
