This Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position is located in the Med/Surg: 8 Tower department at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. It is a full-time, benefits-eligible role, requiring 36 hours per week, specifically 3 days/week from 0700 to 1930, including every other weekend and 3 holidays/year. The CNA will work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, assisting with comprehensive daily patient care. This includes tasks such as bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders, ambulation with therapeutic assistive devices, proper positioning, range of motion, and special transferring. Key responsibilities also involve measuring and documenting vital signs (blood pressures, TPRs, I&O, daily weights) in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), performing purposeful rounding, and communicating patient/family observations and needs to the RN. The CNA will participate in admission, transfer, and discharge processes, ensure patient call lights are accessible and answered promptly, and collect various specimens for point-of-care testing. Additional duties include completing errands, maintaining and ordering stock for the nursing area, cleaning equipment, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties that require lifting and pushing/pulling. The role also involves assisting with patient nutritional needs and maintaining skin integrity, as well as ensuring special patient supplies are provided. Depending on site/unit requirements, the CNA may also remove IVs, provide post-mortem care, and perform bladder scans. Adherence to infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile/aseptic procedures, is mandatory. The CNA must demonstrate knowledge and skills for age-appropriate patient care, understanding growth and development principles across the lifespan to identify and meet age-specific needs.
