Emergency Department | Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
About The Position
Gritman Medical Center is seeking a compassionate and organized Certified Nursing Assistant/Health Unit Coordinator (CNA/HUC) to join our Emergency Department team. This unique dual-role position combines hands-on patient care with essential clerical support to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient unit operations. The ideal candidate is adaptable, patient-focused, and committed to delivering exceptional care in a fast-paced environment. As a CNA , you will assist patients with activities of daily living, support nursing staff with basic patient care, and contribute to the overall safety and comfort of patients. As a Health Unit Coordinator , you'll perform vital administrative duties, such as answering phones, transcribing physician orders, maintaining records, and coordinating communication across the care team.
Requirements
- Completion of an approved nursing assistant course
- Certified and registered on the Idaho State Nursing Assistant registry (in good standing)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or obtain at next available class)
- Ability to maintain core competencies for both CNA and HUC responsibilities within 90 days of hire
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in a hospital or emergency department setting is a plus
- Strong multitasking and time-management skills in high-stress environments
Responsibilities
- Provide basic nursing care under the direction of an RN or LPN
- Assist patients with bathing, dressing, feeding, mobility, toileting, and repositioning
- Observe and report changes in patient conditions to nursing staff
- Support the nursing team in executing the patient care plan
- Promote patient safety, dignity, and comfort
- Answer telephones, relay messages, and facilitate communication between departments
- Transcribe and enter provider orders into the computer system accurately
- Prepare, update, and maintain patient medical records
- Ensure adequate office and unit supplies are available
- Support timely and efficient patient flow through the emergency department
