About The Position

The Medical Associate/CNA is responsible for assisting with patient care in our medically managed detoxification, residential treatment, and outpatient recovery units along with a team of experienced RNs, LPNs, Counselors, Case Managers, Residential Service Associates, Peer Support Workers, Nurse Practitioners, and Physicians. The Medical Associate/CNA position assists the RN/LPN as they collect objective and subjective data from observations, examinations, interviews, and written records in an accurate and timely manner. The Medical Associate/CNA assists clients through withdrawal management and throughout their treatment experience, documents care provided in the electronic health record, collaborates with the team to carry out the plan of care, engages with patients/clients with empathy, kindness, and respect, follows orders delegated by the nurse and carries out tasks as assigned by RN/LPN.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with activities of daily living.
  • Measure and record patients' vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rate.
  • Monitor patients' behavior and health, and report any changes to medical residential services staff.
  • Examine patients for injuries or wounds, and remind them to take medications.
  • Provide companionship and a compassionate ear to patients.
  • Collect information about patients' conditions and treatment plans from nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors, and other interdisciplinary behavioral health team members.
  • Clean and sanitize patient areas.
  • Oversee self-administration of patient medications and ensure proper medication dosages in alignment with prescriber’s orders.
  • Review patients' dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences and coordinate special diet requests with nursing staff and food services.
  • Comply with HIPAA regulations by protecting confidential patient data.
  • Stay up-to-date on CNA training, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor patients during medication administration to ensure compliance and proper ingestion.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records within their scope as a Medical Associate/CNA.
  • Document any medication incidents or incidents as defined by SFRC’s policies and procedures on incident reporting.
  • Assist in emergency situations, following established protocols and procedures, including administering basic first aid and/or performing CPR if necessary.
  • Perform point-of-care testing (e.g.: urine drug testing).
  • Use motivational interviewing and active listening to support patients.
  • Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with State and Federal Law.
  • Communicate effectively with members of multi-disciplinary care environment.
  • Actively participate in the shift change protocol to ensure pertinent patient information is shared with the team.
