About The Position

Aptive Resources is seeking skilled Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) - Emergency Medicine to support the Atlanta VA Medical System. The CNAs will perform a variety of patient care and diagnostic support duties under the minimal supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). They will provide effective interventions tailored to individual patient needs in accordance with established facility policies and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Current CNA certification from any state in the United States.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate accredited by the American Heart Association.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a relevant skill set, with recent experience (within the last six months).
  • Patient Care Technician (PCT) Certification/License or Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Certification/License may be accepted in lieu of a Nursing Assistant certification.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of professional staff and work collaboratively.
  • Competency in basic nursing care and diagnostic support duties.
  • Proficient in documentation and patient care planning.
  • Ability to provide physical and emotional support to patients.
  • Capability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to complete and successfully pass any required government background check

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with personal care, including feeding, walking, lifting, and turning.
  • Provide hygiene care using specialized equipment for patients receiving oxygen or suction therapy.
  • Supervise and support patients in self-care activities such as eating, dressing, and using prosthetic devices.
  • Assist with pre and post-operative care instructions based on nurse or doctor guidance.
  • Take, record, and report vital signs and changes in patients' conditions to the nurse.
  • Assist in diagnostic examinations such as lumbar punctures, liver biopsy, bone marrow examinations, and emergency procedures.
  • Collect, label, and transport specimens to the laboratory.
  • Assemble necessary equipment for procedures and ensure patient positioning.
  • Clean and care for medical equipment used in oxygen and suction therapy and frame beds.
  • Report equipment needing repair.
  • Conduct inventories and contraband searches as needed.
  • Change simple dressings and care for patients with infections or communicable diseases.
  • Provide care for patients with oxygen therapy, chest therapy, postural drainage, and catheter care.
  • Administer basic life support measures.
  • Document vital signs and patient condition in patient charts.
  • Assist with the completion of patient admission histories.
  • Verbally provide information to nurses for inclusion in Nursing Care Plans.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations of the mental health environment of care.
  • Accompany mental health patients to external appointments.
  • Monitor activities in accordance with VHA and AVAHCS regulations.
  • Work with COVID-19 positive patients and Patients Under Investigation (PUI) for COVID-19.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
