About The Position

The Nurse Aide Trainee in our Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) is an entry-level position designed to provide individuals with the necessary training and hands-on experience to become Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). Nurse Aide Trainees work under the supervision of experienced nursing staff and assist with direct patient care, daily activities, and various support tasks to ensure the well-being and comfort of residents.

Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain any and all necessary active and unencumbered certifications, degrees, or licenses in the necessary state, to the extent the position requires such certifications, degrees, or licenses.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
  • Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and understandably write the English language.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination if the position requires.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
  • Assist with mobility and transfers using proper lifting and positioning techniques.
  • Observe and report any changes in residents' physical or mental condition to the nursing staff.
  • Learn to measure and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure, and respiration rate.
  • Report any abnormal findings promptly to the nursing staff.
  • Learn to maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of residents' care, activities, and changes in condition.
  • Complete necessary forms, charts, and reports as required by the facility's policies and procedures.
  • Assist nursing staff with procedures such as dressing changes, toileting, and collection of specimens.
  • Learn and follow infection control protocols to ensure a clean and safe environment.
  • Learn to assist residents with their ADLs, including grooming, oral care, toileting, and ambulation.
  • Encourage independence and self-care to the extent possible while providing necessary support and assistance.
  • Develop the skills to build rapport with residents and provide emotional support.
  • Listen to their concerns and provide reassurance and comfort.
  • Foster a positive and compassionate environment for residents.
  • Learn and follow proper procedures for infection control, fall prevention, and emergency response.
  • Understand and implement safety measures to ensure the well-being of residents.
  • Learn to communicate effectively with residents, their families, and the healthcare team.
  • Provide updates on residents' conditions, concerns, and needs.
  • Collaborate with nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
  • Adhere to facility policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Follow all applicable laws and regulations related to patient care, privacy, and confidentiality.
