About The Position

The University of Miami is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for the Stem Cell Transplant Inpatient Unit at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This position involves a combination of clinical and clerical duties, with a focus on patient care and support. The CNA will work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The role includes observing and reporting patient status, assisting with daily living activities, and performing clerical functions to support the unit's operations. A sign-on bonus of up to $2,500 is available for new hires.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid State of Florida Certified Nursing Certification.
  • 0-1 year of relevant experience.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Observes and reports patient’s status and needs.
  • Answers call lights and attends to/reports patient needs.
  • Obtains weights, vital signs and reports results.
  • Implements patient care plan established by the RN to meet the patient needs.
  • Obtains specimens and transports them through designated tubes.
  • Transfers, moves and repositions patients.
  • Transports patients.
  • Operates all equipment in a safe manner.
  • Assists with procedures/care in a safe manner.
  • Updates patient intake/output including oral intake and measured urine output.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including cleansing and feeding.
  • Makes occupied/unoccupied and surgical beds.
  • Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Assists with post-mortem care.
  • Rounds on patients every two hours for safety checks.
  • Performs secretarial duties including faxing, copying, and typing essential materials.
  • Answers telephone promptly and courteously.
  • Schedules follow-up appointments and consults.
  • Retrieves and assists clinical personnel in retrieving diagnostic studies.
  • Maintains area stocked with necessary supplies and forms.
  • Ensures equipment on unit is working properly.
