About The Position

The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) position at Women's Health Care in Haverhill and Newburyport involves providing comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care to women throughout their lifetime. The CNM will work collaboratively with OB/GYN physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care, including prenatal, postpartum, and gynecologic services, while also managing labor and delivery at Anna Jaques Hospital. This role emphasizes independent practice within a supportive team environment, ensuring personalized care for patients with varying needs and risk factors.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an ACNM accredited nurse-midwifery education program.
  • Prior midwifery experience required (laborist or full scope experience accepted).
  • Current license to practice as a CNM in Massachusetts.
  • Current DEA Number.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • First Assist Skills preferred.
  • Spanish or Portuguese language skills appreciated.
  • Current enrollment in the ACNM CCA or CMP.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct clinical services and management of mothers and babies as defined in the standing orders, policies, procedures and protocols for the certified nurse midwife.
  • Provide medical care and treatment to obstetrical patients in collaboration with an obstetrician/gynecologist during pregnancy and normal delivery.
  • Instruct patients in proper prenatal and postnatal practices and infant care.
  • Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations, documenting findings and ordering appropriate diagnostic tests.
  • Explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedures to patients, families, staff, and healthcare learners.
  • Perform approved therapeutic procedures based on patient's clinical status and document patient preparation and response.
  • Formulate and implement care plans for prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and inter-conceptional care.
  • Collaborate with physician and nursing colleagues and document in medical records and appropriate narrative summaries.
  • Initiate necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patients.
  • Provide patient and family education related to prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and preconception care.
  • Participate in quality/performance improvement activities and support accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Serve as an expert consultant to nursing, members of the healthcare team and the larger community.
  • First assist with C-Sections.
