The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, provides comprehensive, patient centered care to women across the lifespan, supporting the attainment and maintenance of optimal health for individuals with essentially normal pregnancies and gynecologic needs. This role encompasses antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care, as well as gynecologic services, health maintenance, and management of minor acute illnesses. Responsibilities include conducting initial and ongoing assessments to determine appropriateness for midwifery care; providing individualized prenatal education; and collaborating with licensed health care providers as needed to ensure comprehensive, high quality care. The CNM delivers routine prenatal care, including monitoring vital signs, fetal growth and development, and laboratory results, while addressing the physical, nutritional, and emotional needs of the patient and their family. The role also involves attending and supporting the natural process of labor and birth, providing postpartum care to the mother, completing initial newborn assessments, and offering education, guidance, and referrals to community resources related to childbirth preparation, breastfeeding, nutrition, exercise, parenting, and newborn care. Care is delivered in alignment with age related guidelines and a strong commitment to patient education, advocacy, and shared decision making. PRACTICE SPECIFICS: Opportunity to work within a collaborative, high‑volume OB practice, with care provided under a collaborative agreement with physicians and increasing autonomy as the midwifery model continues to develop.
