About The Position

The Virtua Midwifery Birth & Wellness Center offers a 12-month fellowship for a newly graduated Certified Nurse Midwife designed to advance expertise in birth center midwifery-led care and promote health equity. This program provides a supportive, equity centered learning environment to foster a newly graduated or early career CNM in building confidence, clinical excellence, and leadership skills. Fellows will engage in a mentored, full-scope midwifery-led practice within a birth center setting, complimented by didactic learning, participation in scholarly activities, quality assurance initiatives, and completion of a Capstone Project focused on advancing birth equity in the birth center setting.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have a NJ RN and CNM license prior to starting and be eligible to apply for prescriptive privileges.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a comprehensive 12-month fellowship program
  • Provide full-scope midwifery-led care in a birth center setting including: prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care as well as gynecologic and family planning services
  • Provide care across multiple settings, with a primary focus on the freestanding birth center, with additional experience in hospital, multidisciplinary prenatal clinics, and community and specialty clinics
  • Participate in didactic sessions, simulation labs, birth center/hospital drills, equity-focused journal clubs, case reviews, and community outreach projects
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, respectful, and evidence-based care
  • Complete a Capstone Project focused on advancing birth equity in the birth center setting, strengthening community partnerships, and supporting systems-level change
  • Participate in ongoing mentorship, structured evaluations, and 360° feedback
