About The Position

The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) at Kaiser Permanente in Anaheim, California, is responsible for managing the medical care of patients throughout the maternity cycle, including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecological periods. This role involves providing standard maternity care and counseling to expectant women, adhering to established protocols and regulations. The CNM works under the supervision of an Ob-Gyn physician and is expected to perform various clinical tasks, including physical examinations, fetal monitoring, and conducting deliveries.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited RN program.
  • Graduate of a nurse midwifery program accredited by the A.C.N.M.
  • BS or BSN or BA required, MS Degree required in 2010.
  • Certified Nurse Midwife (California) license.
  • Registered Nurse License (California).
  • National Provider Identifier.
  • Nurse Midwife National Certification from American Midwifery Certification Board.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification.
  • If hired as a new grad CNM, obtain California Furnishing Number and, if applicable, DEA Registration Number within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • BCLS certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years recent experience as a CNM preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the care of women during labor and delivery under the supervision of an Ob-Gyn physician.
  • Obtain accurate medical, obstetrical, gynecological, and psycho-social history of the present pregnancy.
  • Observe signs of the member's general and obstetrical health status.
  • Perform complete physical examinations including pap smears, breast examinations, abdominal examinations, pelvic examinations, and clinical pelvimetry.
  • Record all findings of examinations, histories, and significant observations in the patient's chart.
  • Determine pregnancy status during gestation, presentation and position of fetus, and fetal heart rate.
  • Order appropriate laboratory examinations such as chest X-ray, ultrasound, CBC, urinalysis, blood type and Rh factor, and serology tests.
  • Consult with and obtain orders from an obstetrician for any special care or diagnostic procedure and refer to other services as necessary.
  • Institute preventative measures and detect abnormal conditions, obtaining consultation and assistance from physicians as needed.
  • Teach, counsel, and guide individual members regarding their individual health care.
  • Determine the need for social services, genetics, or mental health services and refer as appropriate.
  • Evaluate patients' general and obstetrical health status.
  • Provide health supervision, care, and family planning advice to women during antepartum and postpartum periods.
  • Evaluate fetal status by performing procedures such as abdominal palpation and ultrasound examinations to estimate fetal weight, presentation and position, approximate station, and fetal heart rate.
  • Perform internal and external fetal monitoring and interpretation.
  • Consult with obstetrician regarding questionable findings.
  • Determine member's degree of labor and whether member is to be admitted to labor and delivery.
  • Independently conduct normal spontaneous vaginal deliveries.
  • First assist at Cesarean Sections and gynecological surgeries.
  • Perform immediate care of the newborn.
