About The Position

The Certified Nurse Life Care Planner is responsible for developing comprehensive reports that outline future medical and non-medical expenses for individuals involved in workers' compensation or liability claims. This role requires a strong medical background to evaluate treatment plans and support the goals of the Life Care Plan and Medicare Services department at CorVel. The position allows for remote work and emphasizes the importance of effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Certification as a CLCP or CNLCP required.
  • Certification as a Medicare Secondary Payer consultant preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN desirable.
  • Current RN Licensure in the state of operation.
  • 3 or more years of recent clinical experience, preferably in rehabilitation.
  • Strong clinical background in orthopedics, neurology, or rehabilitation preferred.
  • Strong cost containment background, such as utilization review or managed care helpful.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a high-volume, fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with claims staff, attorneys, physicians, and their representatives.

Responsibilities

  • Organize medical records into chronological order.
  • Assess, review and summarize medical records in a clear, concise manner.
  • Perform evidence-based medical research regarding unfamiliar diagnoses and future medical needs.
  • Utilize medical and nursing knowledge to compile a comprehensive list of necessary future medical expenses.
  • Assign CPT coding and pricing to all future medical expenses.
  • Assign NDC coding and pricing to all future medication pricing.
  • Clarify the need for Rated Age and obtain or calculate life expectancy.
  • Calculate lifetime pricing utilizing state fee schedule or 'usual & customary' charges.
  • Collaborate with defense and plaintiff counsel to obtain necessary signed releases from claimants.
  • Assist with preparation of Medicare Set-Aside allocations as needed.
  • Prepare organized reports within a specified timeframe.
  • Use telephone extensively for communication.
  • Maintain a minimum productivity standard of 95%.
  • Comply with all safety rules and regulations during work hours.
