About The Position

Job incumbent provides patient care and operational support under the supervision of a registered nurse. Obtains vital signs, escorts patients to exam rooms, and prepares patients for exams. Assists medical provider or registered nurse with procedures and treatments. Keeps exam rooms and supply areas stocked and assists with room turn over between patient visits. Escorts patients to other areas of the health center and assists with either ambulatory or wheelchair transport of patients. Adhere to the TCC Ch'eghwtsen' model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Current Alaska Certified Nursing Aide license.
  • BLS certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Prior health care experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Must be able to pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills to work individually and within a medical team.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with typing, using Office computer (MS Office Suite) and clinical computer applications (electronic health record systems).

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for client for appointments.
  • Take vital signs and biometric measurements as appropriate.
  • Prep exam rooms prior to patient care and clean and reset rooms between patient visits.
  • Transport patients to/from radiology, lab or other areas of the clinic.
  • Prepare necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies as needed.
  • Transport laboratory specimens.
  • Assist physicians and nurses with instruments and equipment as needed.
  • Stock exams rooms with supply areas.
  • Answer telephone calls, transfer and/or take messages and refer to appropriate individuals.
  • Communicate with all of TCC staff to ensure patients receive coordinated care.
  • Keep medical staff and nursing scrubs stocked in dressing rooms.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Improvement activities and refer to appropriate individuals.
  • Float to other departments as needed to assist with patient care or administrative tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
