Responsibilities: Performs requirements with minimal monitoring by a Registered Nurse (RN) provides basic, appropriate, effective interventions to individual patient needs according to established facility policies, safety standards and procedures Refers to the professional RN when deviations and problems not covered in the assignment occur Performs a range of personal nursing care which includes feeding, walking, lifting, turning patients, providing related hygiene care to patients using specialized equipment receiving oxygen or suction therapy Performs a range of diagnostic support duties which include taking, recording, and reporting to the nurse deviations in vital signs and changes in patientsâ condition such as diabetic, uremic coma, insulin shock, gastro-intestinal hemorrhage and reporting them to the nurse or doctor Assists the doctor in a variety of diagnostic examinations such as lumbar punctures, liver biopsy, bone marrow examinations and emergency procedures Assembles necessary equipment and positions patients, collects, labels and transports specimens to the laboratory Checks patients frequently during and following procedures for changes in patientâs condition Escorts patients to and from diagnostic studies Cleans and cares for equipment used in oxygen and suction therapy, frame beds and reports equipment in need of repair Performs a range of treatment procedures that include changing simple dressings Cares for patients with infection, communicable diseases, and those in infection isolation Cares for patients receiving oxygen via cannula or mask as well as ventimask, patients with chest therapy and postural drainage Cares for patients with condom catheters as well as indwelling Foley catheters Administers basic life support measures Verbally provides information to the nurse for inclusion in the Nursing Care Plans Documents vital signs Enter information about the patientsâ condition in the patientsâ chart Assists with completion of patientsâ admission history Provide 1:1 care as a Patient Safety Partner as needed on and off the unit Performs EKGs as requested Obtains and records temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, pulse oximetry, height, weight, I&Oâs, and blood sugar for all patients according to providers orders and reporting all abnormalities immediately to RN Recognizes potentially hazardous conditions on the unit, observing, managing, engaging, and documenting disturbed behaviors while engaging those behaviors and reporting to the RN May be required to work with COVID 19 positive patients and Patients Under Investigation (PUI), for COVID 19 Requirements: At least a minimum of 1-year current experience (must have worked within the last six months) in a medical/surgical unit, Long Term Care/Nursing Home setting, or an inpatient psychiatric unit Current basic life support (BLS) certification by an American Health Association vendor Current CNA certification from any state (United States)
