Ranked by Forbes among America's best large employers and among the top 25 large health system employers nationally, we also encompass 3 community hospitals, an NCI designated cancer center, the top children's hospital in VA, and an integrated network of primary and specialty care clinics. 5 South is a 28-bed unit that serves both living donors and recipients for kidney, liver, and pancreas transplants. We are a mixed unit that cares for both Acute and Intermediate Care (IMU) patients. Almost all of our patients are immunosuppressed and are on multiple hazardous medications. Also, a small population of acute care medicine patients. Performs a variety of patient care and administrative support functions under the supervision of Medical Center professionals in an inpatient or outpatient setting or in a patient's home.

  • Assists patients with personal care as needed for optimal recovery during hospitalization.
  • Performs basic nursing skills as delegated by an RN and in accordance with policy and procedure to promote patient health and wellness.
  • Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
  • Performs administrative support functions.
  • Maintains necessary skills and competencies.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS Certification required.
  • Certified to practice as a Nurse Aide in the Commonwealth of Virginia OR must meet one of the following criteria: Successful completion of the UVa PCT Education Program OR Successful completion of another PCT Education Program that has been approved by NPDS.
  • Documented proof of at least 1 year of recent (within past 2 years) experience in a similar PCT role from an outside institution.
  • Passage of a nationally recognized and accredited PCT Certification exam.
  • Currently enrolled student nurses who have successfully completed the Medical/Surgical Clinical Experience and Didactic are exempt from the Certified Nurse Aide requirement.
  • EMT or above certification.
