The Women’s Place provides family centered care to approximately 4,000 obstetric and newborn patients at UVA Medical Center each year. It is comprised of 40 private rooms located within 8E, 8N, and 8C at University hospital. There are 4 OB triage rooms, 8 labor-delivery-recovery suites, 2 operating rooms, 12 mother-baby rooms, 13 high-risk antepartum/postpartum rooms, and a newborn procedural area. As both a community and high risk referral center, these services are complimented by a renowned Neonatal Intensive Care unit and Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants. The most common medical diagnosis are gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, preterm labor, placenta previa/abruption, chorioamnionitis, newborn jaundice, newborn hypoglycemia, and preterm birth. The usual nurse to patient ratio is 2:1 for the operating room, 1:1-2 for LDR, 1:2-4 for MB, HR-AP, PP, and Triage. The Women’s Place has achieved both a Baby Friendly Designation as well as an Honor Roll Status from the Immunization Action Coalition. Assists patients with personal care as needed for optimal recovery during hospitalization. Performs basic nursing skills as delegated by an RN and in accordance with policy and procedure to promote patient health and wellness. Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care. Performs administrative support functions. Maints necessary skills and competencies. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
