About The Position

Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Role Summary The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) supports the delivery of safe, compassionate patient care by assisting licensed nursing staff with daily patient care activities. Working under the direction of the Nurse Manager and professional nursing staff, the CNA provides direct support with personal care, patient monitoring, and unit operations to ensure a safe, comfortable, and healing environment for patients. This position plays a vital role in maintaining patient safety, supporting clinical teams, and ensuring high levels of patient satisfaction within the hospital setting. What You’ll Do Assist patients with activities of daily living including hygiene, grooming, positioning, and mobility Measure and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, and weight Monitor patient conditions and report any changes or abnormalities to the nurse or charge nurse Assist with patient admissions and discharges, including preparing rooms and orienting patients to the unit Support nursing staff by collecting specimens, measuring intake and output, and assisting with routine patient care procedures Assist with ambulation, repositioning, transport, and use of assistive devices Maintain patient rooms and unit areas to ensure a safe, clean, and organized environment Provide excellent patient-centered service that supports comfort, safety, and dignity Transport patient care equipment and assist with setup when needed Participate in unit meetings, educational programs, and departmental activities Required Qualifications Education High school diploma or GED Completion of an approved Nursing Assistant training program Experience Minimum of six (6) months of experience as a Nursing Assistant or Nursing Technician preferred Licensure / Certifications Current District of Columbia Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Skills & Competencies Ability to perform basic nursing care and assist patients with daily living activities Ability to safely operate patient care equipment Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA standards Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions About Howard University Hospital Howard University Hospital (HUH) is one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers and the only teaching hospital located on the campus of a historically Black university. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
