About The Position

Provides patient care by administering routine prescribed medications and maintaining related medical records in long term care, under the direction and supervision of a licensed and/or registered nurse (LPN or RN). Assists the nursing staff by performing assigned duties.

Requirements

  • No experience required
  • High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher required upon hire
  • SRNA - Certified as State Registered Nurse Assistant in the state of Kentucky required upon hire
  • CMA-Certified Medication Aide certification and eligible to practice in the state of Kentucky required upon hire
  • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 45 days of employment in this position

Responsibilities

  • Administers prescribed routine oral and/or topical medications to residents under supervision, excluding any first dose medications, injectables, as needed medications and/or any medication classified as a controlled substance.
  • Follows all relevant safety guidelines and regulations with patient verification and medication safe handling practices.
  • Administers and records the name of the drug, the dosage, the time and techniques of administration, according to facility policy and procedure including use of Omnicell and electronic medication administration record (EMAR).
  • Performs tasks associated with medication administration, including: obtaining vital signs, point of care (POC) glucose testing and observation of residents for response to medications.
  • Utilizes bedside medication verification (BMV) in conjunction with the eight rights of medication verification during the medication administration process.
  • Greets and orients patients and guests to hospital environment.
  • Contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for review by a nurse.
  • Documents patient progress toward goals and ensures documentation is accurate, complete, specific, and timely.
  • Assists nursing staff to identify physical, psychosocial, age-specific, cultural considerations and any abnormal findings of each patient.
  • Works with the nursing staff to provide personal care according to organizational standards and policies.
  • Performs job duties in accordance with Kentucky state laws and regulations.
  • May perform plan of care interventions within KMA scope of practice.
  • May electronically transfer patients in and out of the unit including facilitation of direct admit process, completion of discharge in electronic medical record (EMR), assembling paper-lite chart, and assisting with patient bed placement.
  • May update diet orders and verifies tray deliveries meet diet requirements.
  • May arrange for patient transport services.
  • May enter work orders and obtain supplies from materials.
