About The Position

A healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Certified Medical Coder with strong expertise in Outpatient and Emergency Department (ED) coding . This role requires advanced knowledge of medical coding standards, payer requirements, and federal billing regulations, with the ability to work independently in a high-volume environment.

Requirements

• 3–4+ years of Outpatient medical coding experience
• Emergency Department coding experience – Required
• Proficiency with EPIC and 3M/HDS coding applications
• Expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 , and outpatient/ED coding guidelines
• Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes
• Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, encoder tools)
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• High School Diploma or GED – Required
• One or more of the following certifications required: CCS CPC RHIA / RHIT CCP

Nice To Haves

• Inpatient coding experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate and compliant medical coding for outpatient and ED encounters in an acute care setting.
• Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 , and other applicable coding classifications.
• Ensure adherence to official coding guidelines, payer policies, and federal billing regulations.
• Research and resolve complex or ambiguous coding scenarios.
• Maintain high productivity and accuracy standards with minimal supervision.
• Utilize encoder and coding systems including EPIC and 3M/HDS .
• Support internal quality assurance initiatives and assist with coder education as needed.
