About The Position

The Certified Medical Coder position is a permanent, full-time role located in Odanah, WI. The primary responsibilities include assigning and sequencing ICD-10-CM/CPT/HCPCS codes to diagnoses and procedures, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of medical records, and supporting billing and health record management. The coder will work closely with healthcare providers to validate diagnoses and procedures, ensuring compliance with third-party reimbursement agencies and screening criteria. Proficiency in electronic health records, particularly Intergy, is required, along with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality in accordance with tribal and HIPAA policies.

Requirements

  • Active certification from American Association of Certified Coders (AAPC) and/or coder certification from a medical coding program.
  • Experience with an electronic health record.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical codes including ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and IHS coding conventions.
  • Skill in correlating observations/symptoms to assign the correct ICD-10-CM code.
  • Knowledge of health insurance processes, policies, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns and sequences ICD-10-CM/CPT/HCPCS codes to diagnoses and procedures for documented information.
  • Abstracts necessary information from health records to identify secondary complications and co-morbid conditions.
  • Determines the validity and completeness of final diagnoses and procedures stated by the physician.
  • Performs comprehensive reviews of records to ensure all component parts are present.
  • Evaluates records for documentation consistency and adequacy.
  • Analyzes provider documentation to ensure appropriate Evaluation & Management (E/M) services are accounted for.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the PRC manager or clinic administrator.
  • Uses electronic health record (Intergy) proficiently and recommends improvements for documentation.
