About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for assisting providers of care in the Women Health Service clinic. This position ensures quality service and delivery of care to patients and maintains the service delivery environment. This environment will be clean, well maintained, and the patients are treated with excellence in customer service. This position supports, promotes and furthers our goal of providing the highest standards of culturally relevant and sensitive professional service consistent with our mission.

Requirements

  • Completed Medical Assistant program from an accredited school
  • 2 years of experience working as a CMA in an OB/GYN setting
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite of products and Electronic Health Record
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required

Responsibilities

  • Collects patient medical histories and administers screening questionnaires
  • Explains treatment procedures to patients
  • Prepares patients for examinations
  • Assists the provider during examinations
  • Collects and prepares laboratory specimens
  • Performs phlebotomy and basic laboratory tests
  • Prepares and administers medications, including intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections, including vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider (e.g., physician resident, a nurse practitioner or physician assistant).
  • Assist providers during pelvic exams, Pap smears, breast exams, prenatal visits, and minor procedures
  • Collect and process specimens (urine, blood, cultures, pregnancy tests)
  • Perform CLIA-waived tests (urinalysis, pregnancy tests, rapid STI tests, as applicable)
  • Assist providers during procedures such as colposcopies, IUD insertions/removals, biopsies, and ultrasounds
  • Obtain and document vital signs, pregnancy status, obstetric history, and gestational age
  • Transmits prescription refills, as directed
  • Takes electrocardiograms
  • Performs wound care and changes dressings
  • Performs inventory of and orders clinic supplies. stocks rooms
  • Performs daily quality control checks of laboratory devices, per policy and procedures
  • Performs refrigerator maintenance tasks, per policy and procedures
  • Performs sterilization of instruments, per policy and procedures
  • Participate in health fairs and outreach events
  • Provide basic health education and tips for healthy lifestyle choices
  • Answer client/patient questions about healthcare as directed by licensed clinician
  • Assist patients in completing surveys, health screenings and forms for additional services or programs
  • Works closely with the medical receptionist to greet and help patients, schedule appointments, and maintain records and accounts
  • Collects client payment and records into practice management system
  • Ensures that customer calls are answered promptly and courteously and routed appropriately
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient interactions, application submissions, and follow-up actions.
  • Maintain regular communication with patients, confirming appointments, conducting follow-ups, and supporting adherence to treatment plans.
